This is an 8-week group yoga program targeted at improving general health and well-being for men, with a particular focus on flexibilty, balance and breathwork.
The teaching style uses invitational language, choice-making and interoception which helps participants to notice sensations from within, increase agency and self-regulation. It may also improve mood and mental health.
The Yoga for Men program invites up to 8 participants to practice yoga in a closed group setting that is inclusive and accessible. The program design and methodology consists of a weekly 60-minute easy yoga session with stretching exercises, balancing work, simple breathing techniques and short relaxation.
All identities welcome and suitable for most abilities.
Current program criteria:
- Must be 18 years of age or over
- Currently live in the Illawarra or Shoalhaven
- Male identified or non-binary
- Applicants with limited access to social resources are highly encouraged to apply
The 2024-25 program is funded by the Yoga for Good Foundation and is free of charge to participants.

It will be a hybrid of slow moving forms, stretching and breathing exercises with props and chairs provided. Suitable for people with limited or no prior experience in yoga. For those who are curious, the styles are a mix of vinyasa, hatha, yin and yoga nidra using a trauma-sensitive approach.
A yoga session that feels accessible and steady. A space that is safe and inclusive, led by a faciliator who is approachable and knowledgeable in mental health. There will be no hands-on assists, sanskrit, essential oils or incense. Just movement, breath and balance!
All yoga props will be provided for use but you are welcome to bring your own and maybe a bottle of water. Please wear clothing that will allow your body to move comfortably eg. tracksuit pants or sport shorts and t-shirt. Shoes are not required.
Yoga is scientifically proven to be beneficial for both physical and mental health. When practiced with a trauma-sensitive method in a group setting, it can offer the person a mind and body approach towards well-being, resilience and connection.
