This is an 8-week group program targeted at improving mental health for men and with a particular focus on suicide prevention. All facilitators are trained professionals in mental health.
The program consists of weekly movement and mindfulness yoga sessions, peer support group meetings, and educational seminars. These are divided into four parts:
Part 1: Weekly movement and mindfulness yoga sessions
Part 2: Weekly online peer support group meetings
Part 3: Fortnightly online webinars with guest speakers
Part 4: Half-day workshop
There are two yoga classes available and each class has a maximum capacity of 8 participants. Please select your preferred class when applying.

Eligibility criteria:
- Between 18 - 65 years old
- Currently live in the Illawarra or Shoalhaven
- Male identified or non-binary
- Interested in suicide prevention or have personal experience in suicidality
This program is generously funded by the NSW Ministry of Health and in partnership with the Shoalhaven Suicide Prevention Awareness Network (SSPAN). It is free of charge to all participants.

It will be a hybrid of slow moving forms, stretching and breathing exercises with props and chairs provided. Suitable for people with limited or no prior experience in yoga. For those who are curious, the styles are a mix of vinyasa, hatha, yin and yoga nidra using a trauma-sensitive approach.
A yoga session that feels accessible and steady. A space that is safe and inclusive, led by a faciliator who is approachable and knowledgeable in mental health.
The online group meetings and webinars are designed to be supportive and educational. Our guest speakers are carefully chosen for their lived experience. These sessions may involve participants engaging with each other via live chat or video. You are welcome to keep your camera off during the sessions.
The final workshop will be held in-person on 20th September with special guest speakers and a closing ceremony to celebrate the end of the program.
For the yoga sessions, props will be provided for use but you are welcome to bring your own and maybe a bottle of water. Please wear clothing that will allow your body to move comfortably, for example, tracksuit pants or shorts and t-shirt. Shoes are not required.
For the online sessions, you will need internet connection and access to Microsoft Teams or Zoom.
Yoga is suitable for most abilities. However, please check with your primary health care provider for advice. The building is wheelchair accessible and there are free on-street parking available. If you have specific requirements for yoga or the online sessions, please contact us to discuss further.
This program is specifically designed to help improve mental health for men who are at risk of suicidality, have attempted suicide, or curious about suicide prevention. Applicants are advised that some of the content within the program may be triggering and to seek support from your usual networks where appropriate. You are welcome to speak to your health care provider or support person first before attending this program. All facilitators in the program are trained mental health professionals.
